Melita F. Grimes, LCSW
Melita Grimes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed in Delaware and Pennsylvania. She is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and has worked in the field of social services since 2004.
She began her career working in group homes with youths diagnosed with an intellectual disability. In 2012, she began conducting investigations involving older adults who had been abused, neglected, and exploited, where she was also a legal guardian making decisions for individuals who were deemed incapacitated.
While receiving her master’s degree in social work, she assisted individuals with physical disabilities in accessing resources for in-home services through the state of Pennsylvania. Full-time, she worked with adults diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder in a locked mental health facility.
She received her master’s degree in social work in 2015 and decided to move to Philadelphia, PA, where she continued to assist individuals with physical disabilities in accessing resources.
In 2018, she joined Progressive Life Center (PLC) for the first time. She started in the Philadelphia office, assisting foster parents with the youth in their homes. Later, she moved to the Delaware office, where she became a social worker, assisting youths in foster care. She worked for PLC-Delaware until 2021, when she decided to move on to assist youths in the school district in accessing mental health services.
In 2022, Melita decided to take her examination to become a licensed clinical social worker. She passed the exam and then decided to open her own practice, still offering mental health services to youths in schools but also providing psychotherapy to individuals in need.
In 2024, Melita returned to PLC-Delaware to direct the Foster Care and Independent Living Programs. Her passion is helping unaccompanied youths, as she can relate to them, and assisting them in laying their foundation to have a great chance at a bright future.
When she isn’t working, she enjoys traveling, watching sports, and spending time with family. She still has her private practice, but helping children remains her passion, often saying, “Children are not just the future, but are the present.”
