Audrey Skrine Chase, a native of Washington, D.C., completed her undergraduate degree in Sociology from Delaware State University and her graduate degree in Social Work (clinical) from the University of Maryland. For the full span of her career, she has served in direct care, supervisory, management and leadership positions in the mental health and behavioral health field – at all times, working with and on behalf of children, families and adults with mental illness and/or substance use challenges.
Her latest of a long list of employment tenures was with the State of Maryland’s Behavioral Health Administration. She initially served as the first female and first African American Chief Executive Officer of the State residential treatment program for children/adolescents in Prince George’s County and, later on, as the Assistant Director of Managed Care, Office of Compliance. In both positions, Mrs. Chase enjoyed opportunities to help create innovative services, collaborate with a host of agencies and professionals with like-minded goals, and resolve unique compliance challenges in community agencies.
Since her retirement, Mrs. Chase assumed a volunteer role as Commissioner with the Department of Social Services’ Advisory Board. Initially serving as Secretary, she currently serves as Chair. Additionally, her “spare time” is consumed with active service on and collaboration with various Committees within the Prince George’s County Alumnae Chapter of her beloved sisterhood, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. At First Baptist Church of Highland Park, Mrs. Chase serves as Vice President of the Social Justice Ministry – diligently working to help raise awareness and ignite the call to action around voting, domestic violence/sexual assault, gun violence, racial disparity, police shootings, and a host of injustices that affect the Black community. Finally, Mrs. Chase is active with the Alumni Association of her alma mater, Delaware State University.
Mrs. Chase’s unyielding pledge is to “pay the rent for her space on the planet” through service. It is her passionate effort to help those who may not be in the position to help themselves. Mrs. Chase and her husband, Dr. K. B. Chase, have three (3) adult children — Tarik, Jamila and Kalif – and seven (7) TERRIFIC grandchildren.
