2024 Applications Opening in Spring

Progressive Life Center’s (PLC) Jackson-Brittain Scholarship provides up to $20,000 over four years to eligible current or former foster youth.

Recipients may apply for up to $5,000 a year and are eligible to receive the scholarship for up to four years. The maximum scholarship amount per recipient over four years is $20,000. PLC may commit to multi-year awards, the distribution of which is provisional to a student meeting previous semester/session criterion.

Each year, applications will be accepted during the month of April, with fund distribution beginning in August of the same year. Annual awards may be applied to a single semester/session, or may be distributed across two or more. Annual funds awarded must be utilized within one year of award. Scholarship award payments are made directly to the institute of learning.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants are high school seniors and high school graduates or equivalent, who are in or planning for higher education including trade, vocational or career schools and college. The Jackson-Brittain Scholarship is open to past or present Progressive Life Center foster care program participants. Academic standing is only one award consideration, but multi-year scholarship award payments are contingent on the recipient’s maintenance of good academic standing. This will be clarified on an individual basis but might include, for instance, maintenance of a 2.0 GPA for a college student, or another achievement indicator for a trade student.

The late Mr. Brittain’s wife, Mrs. Deborah Brittain, sponsors the scholarship through her family foundation. Dr. Jackson, the Brittain’s long-time friend and PLC President and CEO since 2008, offers formal guidance and mentorship to all scholarship recipients.
