The adoption process is an ongoing journey that continues past the day the adoption is finalizes. There are several ways that foster parents can help ease the transition. The transition to adoption is a gradual process and the adjustment period can be a vulnerable time as your foster child begins to understand they will not return to their birth family. Some children feel relief about having a forever family while others may feel a deep sense of loss.
