John D. B. Carr is the elected Sheriff for Prince George’s County, Maryland, a diverse demographical area located within the National Capital Region. Sheriff Carr began his law enforcement career as a in 2002, and while working his way through the ranks of the Prince George’s Sheriffs Office, he continued his formal education by earning a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Norwich University.

Over the course of his more than 20 years of law enforcement service, Sheriff Carr has served in every rank, and been assigned to nearly every post within the Office of the Sheriff. From commanding the Specialized Services Team (SWAT), to investigating complaints in the Internal Affairs Division, Sheriff Carr has a wide-ranging knowledge of the law enforcement service and of the agency. Today, Sheriff Carr leads a professional managerial team responsible for nearly 400 sworn and civilian support staff employees, serving over 900,000 residents of Prince George’s County.

Sheriff Carr believes very deeply in the Prince George’s County community and considers it essential for his deputies to treat citizens and visitors with dignity and respect. Sheriff Carr’s principles of transparency, honesty, service, and community have been the foundation on which he leads the Office of the Sheriff.
