Did you know that from 2011 to 2017, Prince George’s County saw 55 deaths – the highest in the state – resulting from domestic violence. All domestic violence has lasting effects on victims, their children and families, and the community at large. We must do more to address and prevent domestic violence (DV) and sexual assault (SA) in our community.

That is why PLC Prince George’s County has embarked in a partnership with the men of the Prince George’s County Alumni Chapters of Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity, Inc. Our joint mission is to expand awareness in violence prevention against women and girls.

Since 2015, PLC Prince George’s County has offered culturally-specific bystander education to increase awareness of red flags of domestic violence and sexual assault (DV & SA) within the African American community. Later this year, with our new partner, we plan to co-host a Bystander Education Symposium on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to educate alumni members. More about the Symposium

During the half-day event, attending Kappa Alpha Psi Alumni will gather the tools and knowledge to share with other men. As we work to confirm our venue, the symposium is anticipated for a Saturday this fall (with a S\spring 2021 contingency) and will begin with a continental breakfast registration followed by guest speakers, DV & SA Education Training, testimonials, panel discussion and a catered lunch.

Through the symposium, it is our goal to prepare up to 75 Kappa Alpha Psi Alumni Members who will then share their knowledge and activism with men on college campuses, men engaged with civic and faith organizations, and other men within their circles. We are excited by the exponential impact that might result from this single event, and invite you to be part of our community effort. Please consider a symposium sponsorship so that together, we can educate and engage men toward the prevention of violence against women and be the change needed in Prince George’s County.
